Sunday 6th December 2009

Second Sunday of Advent.

"(John) went through the whole Jordan district proclaiming a baptism for the forgiveness of sins." Every day we are made aware of how much evil there is in our world, with stories of cruelty and vandalism at home and abroad. And yet in spite of this awareness there is a huge decline in our sense of sin. In some ways this is a good development because in former times so much was thought of as sin. However, as we approach Christmas and beyond, it is important that we hear the call for repentance and leave anything that is harmful in the past behind us by placing it firmly in the hands of Christ, especially through celebrating the great Sacrament of Confession. This makes it possible for us to make a fresh start again and again in our relationships with God and with one another in our homes and in our parish community.

Fr. Johnny Doherty, C.Ss.R.

What marvels the Lord worked for us!

Indeed we were glad.

Sympathy

Mary Ann Doherty, Ballybawn died very peacefully in Carn Hospital after a lengthy stay there. Our deepest sympathy to her nephews and nieces, the Ruddy family and her many friends. She was one of life’s characters.

Gabrielle Conaghan died very suddenly at her home in Derry and her burial took place in Bocan, Culdaff, her spiritual home. Our thoughts are with her daughters Mary and Dee, her grandson, Rory, son-in-law Lowry and her wider family circle.

May their souls rest in Christ’s peace.

Advent Prayer

Father, in the wilderness of the Jordan you sent a messenger to prepare people's hearts for the coming of your Son. Help me to hear his words and repent of my sins, so that I may clearly see the way to walk, the truth to speak, and the life to live for Him, our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen
