Sunday in Ordinary Time

Jesus said to
the crowd: ‘Anyone
who eats this bread will live forever’.
To live forever is one of the longings
in every human heart. And yet death
is part of every human life. Jesus
reveals though that death is not
the end but only the beginning of
new life and he has led the way
for us through his resurrection.
And he gives us his own body and
blood to lead us into eternal life.
Through the Eucharist we are already
united with life that will last
forever, a life that we are called
on to live now through our love
for God and for one another. Eucharistic
people are meant to be people who
live life to the full, people who
radiate hope, people who are known
for their joy and gladness in being
alive, people who forgive easily
and often, people who bring peace
and happiness into the lives of
all whom they meet.

Doherty, C.Ss.R.

JESUS
CHRIST’S DISCPLES
Dear Jesus, help me to spread your
fragrance everywhere I go. Flood my
soul with your spirit and life. Penetrate
and possess my whole being so utterly
that my life may only be a radiance
of yours. Shine through me, and so
be in me, that every soul I come in
contact with may feel your presence.
Let them look up and see no longer
me but only Jesus. Stay with me, and
then I shall begin to shine; so to
shine as to be a light to others;
the light , O Jesus, will be all from
you, none of it will be mine; it will
be you shining on others through me.
Let me praise you in the way you love
best by shining on those around me.
Let me preach you, not by words only,
but by the catching force of example,
the evident fullness of the love my
heart bears to you.

The
Deep End: - Cop on or Cop out
Fr Tom Cahill SVD
The message on the church bulletin
board reads: ‘Those who stand
for nothing fall for everything.’
Wisdom is knowing what to stand for
– and standing up for it. Wisdom
is putting knowledge to good use.
Today’s First Reading [Prov
9:1-6] urges us to ‘lay aside
immaturity, and live, and walk in
the way of insight’ [V 6]. Easier
said than done.
Someone who is immature is not ripe.
Growth in one or more areas of their
life slowed down or stopped completely
at some stage. It’s scary enough
that such a thing can happen, but
to make matters worse it can happen
without realising it until it’s
late in the day.
Today’s reading also tells us
to walk in the way of insight. Fine!
But how do you do that? You can’t
just decide to have an insight as
you'd have a cup of tea. You can’t
conjure one up, order one over the
Internet, or go to a shop and buy
one. No! They either come to you or
they don’t. However, maybe it’s
just one basic insight that the reading
refers to. Once you’ve had that
one others follow of their own accord
as life presents them. But without
the basic one you miss the others.
And what is more basic than to realise
that life has purpose, and consequences
that extend beyond death. Once that
sinks in we begin to see things differently.
Wisdom has built her house, set her
pillars, and prepared a meal for those
who enter. so let’s put immaturity
aside and live. Let’s cop on
not cop out.
