LOVE—THE
KEY
Darkness came
down, and then
I doubted all;
And there was no one in the lonely
glen
To hear my call.
I doubted God, and I doubted
My secret soul;
The legions of heaven were routed
And I had no goal.
I doubted Beauty and Love
And wandered forth
A child of despair, to rove
The faithless earth.
And then like an angel she came;
I ceased to rove;
In her heart was a pure white flame
And she was love.

Resurrection. Reasons for
Believing
The testimony of the apostles –
these men were deflated at the death
of Christ on the Cross. All their
hopes were dashed. The appearances
of Christ were a big shock to them.
But they were absolutely convinced
that Jesus was alive again –
they talked with Him, ate with Him,
and when the Holy Spirit came to them
they were filled with hope and courage,
and were willing to give their lives
to spread the message that Christ
had conquered death once and for all.

Faith
Perhaps this is the real message of
faith for the world now: the heart
of a man can change at any moment,
every instant has eternal value because
in any moment of your life you might
find the courage to open the door
to Christ.
This is what happened to me.

Breakfast with Jesus
We’ve come in just two weeks
from Jesus ‘resurrecting’
disciples buried in fear and grief,
locked in tombs of their own making
to some serious I.D. provided for
Thomas the absent disciple. Now we
have seven of the disciples head northwards
to Galilee. They are gently called
back to ‘Come and have breakfast’
– they are fed and strengthened
before given the task.
Firstly they are to bring something
to the fire, not just fish. Thy brought
their love for Christ, their fear
of the future, and their love for
each other. This is no Audrey Hepburn
‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’
moment. A film exuding glamour but
actually about the lonely and pathetic
habit of a young woman who sells herself
as an escort. She dreams of a life
of wealth and security, instead she
is confronted by the cold hard realities
of her life.
In the same way the disciples had
dreams of wealth and power. It seemed
tantalisingly close with their triumphant
entry to Jerusalem on Palm Sunday.
The dream fell apart, and yes He rose
again and that was great, but He wasn’t
their teacher anymore. No more travelling
around with him, listening and watching
him teach and heal. Nothing for it
but to head back to the cold, hard
realities of life. Nothing to do but
go back to fishing.
A fair number of us live a ‘Breakfast
at Tiffany’s’ kind of
life, moving between shallow materialism
and mindless grind.
Breakfast with Jesus offers infinite
possibilities - strengthened for the
task ahead of tomorrow.
