Derry Diocesan
Child Safeguarding Annual Update
There is now a new Child Safeguarding
Policy Document in place in the Diocese
of Derry. This policy aims to minimise
the risk to children involved in church
activities. It has been drawn up to
meet the requirements of the National
Board for Safeguarding Children in
the Catholic Church in Ireland. A
copy of the document is now available
in all parish offices and will shortly
be available to view or download from
the diocesan website www.derrydiocese.org
If you or anyone you know has a child
safeguarding concern or wishes to
report an allegation directly to the
statutory authorities, please contact
the PSNI/local Health and Social Care
Trust (Northern Ireland) or Health
Service Executive/Garda, (Republic
of Ireland). If contacting the Health
Service Executive or local Health
and Social Care Trust, ask to speak
to the Duty Social Worker.

We now offer a new
type of course. Its called FOCCUS
Programme. It uses a set of questions
to be answered by couples and then
discussed with a facilitator. The
programme is run over two sessions.
The first involves the couple meeting
with the facilitator and filling out
an inventory of questions which covers
a broad range of topics known to be
important to married relationships.
The second session involves discussion
with the facilitator on the topics
covered. Each session is about 90
minutes and is 10-14 days apart.
We propose offering the programme
to couples who, for the following
reasons would be unable to attend
a full course:- inter-faith couple;
at the request of the local priest;
illness issues, difficulty with attendance
at multi-sessional course; second
marriage; age-related issues.
Please note that this course is not
suitable for person/persons with literacy
or language difficulties.

Do you
know of an older person living alone
who could benefit from a weekly phone
call? Talk to them about
the service and give them our contact
details or if you need more information
give us a call and we will explain
the service to you.
